Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While playing web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
