NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
