No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
