No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
