No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked gambling on various card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games while playing his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker players. He believed he might better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The real improvement in his skills happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly compete against one another. He was able to access a number of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his strategic thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker world today. He relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
